It’s SCLD’s learning disability week this week. We’ve decided to blog about our work days to satisfy the curious, the confused, the bored and the inspired. Also we mixed up the words biog and blog in a staff meeting. Sometimes amazing ideas come from making mistakes. Check back each day for different stories.
Today’s blog is brought to you with Marco.
I woke up at 6am, had a shower, got dressed, then had breakfast. I left the house at 7:45am. I get the bus at 8.05am. I get to the tramway for 8:40am. I like to have a cup of tea before I start. I’m an admin assistant my job involves taking the class fees and ticking their names off the register. I then add up the totals on the register and make sure that they tally up with the money on the sheets. Today there are 4 classes. 2 Dance Your Socks Off baby classes (D.Y.S.O.) and 2 Adult Classes. There are 2 D.Y.S.O. Classes the first one starts at 9.30am and the second one starts at 10.15am. Whilst waiting for the parents and babies to attend I set my table with the registers, receipts etc. The parents pay for the class and attend it. I bag and tag the money. As I watched the classes I realised that ironically the parents enjoy it more than the kids did which goes to show that we are all kids at heart.
There are 2 Adult Classes the first class is from 11am-12pm. We then break for lunch 12pm-1pm. The second class is from 1pm-2pm. The clients pay for their class and attend it after I bag and tag the money. I watch the class as I realise that most of the clients that attend are disabled this doesn’t stop them from enjoying and interacting within the class as different types of music and props are used. Once the second class has finished I go back to the office hand in the money and wait until the registers are typed up onto the main computer I leave the office get the bus home have dinner and watch T.V.
